lyrics
Now, Spalding Gray can't swim,
Spalding Gray an't Walk,
Spalding Gray can't Dance,
Spalding Gray can't, he can't even talk
Spalding Gray is shrinking
with his back against the wall
his world reduced to tofu on a fork,
The theaters getting bigger,
as his old desk elongates,
and his curtains all unravel on the stage,
He turns back to his manuscripts
the monologue his raft,
but there are no words on the page,
He thinks about the accident,
crushed metal and bruised brain,
the paralysis that robbed him of his step,
He makes to tell the audience,
but he words die on his lips,
his past is so much baggage left to shlep,
He dived after his mother
the water deep and cold,
he dived to cleanse his palette
of the bitter taste of lies
he dived without a life ring to hold,
he dived without celexa,
he dived without paxil,
he dived without prozac or depakote,
he dived to flee the furies in hot pursuit,
he dived without a parachute.
he dived.
